I put on my uniform for the last time on November 23, 1975. I had announced my retirement in July but the Cowboys brought me back to Texas Stadium for Bob Lilly Day. The club invited my family and held the first Cowboy reunion, which gave me an opportunity to visit with a lot of my old teammates. Everything was beautiful. I was introduced on the field at halftime and Cowboys owner Clint Murchison, president Tex Schramm and Coach Tom Landry as they expressed their appreciation for my 14 years as a Cowboy. I received some great gifts - a station wagon, a gun, a hunting dog - from club, players and friends. And the club inaugurated the Ring of Honor, unveiling my name and number beneath the press box. There was a bonus. As the first member, I have the honor of returning to present each new member. So far there have been Troy Aikman, Cliff Harris, Bob Hayes, Chuck Howley, Michael Irvin, Lee Roy Jordan, Coach Tom Landry, Bob Lilly, Don Meredith, Don Perkins, Mel Renfro, Tex Schramm, Emmitt Smith, Roger Staubach, Randy White, and Rayfield Wright. The Cowboys have had so many other fine players through the years, I figure my job has no end.
