Wasn't I glamorous? Those holes in my jersey were from offensive linemens's
fingers. When I saw those old game jerseys they gave us to wear in practice
I didn't know if the club might not be in a bind for money. I was very,
very green then. I played defensive end on the left side at fist and I
never did like that. I was always watching for reverses, bootlegs and traps
instead of using my natural instincts and going for the ball.
Halfway through my third year, Coach Landry told me he was moving me
to tackle on the right side. He said, "You're more naturally suited
for it because you have good movement and agility. You won't have to wait
for the play to develop like you do at end." He made the right decision.
Tackle was a natural for me. I was in the middle of the action, having
to think quick and move quick. I loved it from the very first day I played
it.
